In the cinema section this week, two documentaries are being screened: Aminetu. 50 years of occupation and Canary Island healers, traditions of healing, and the Surfer Film Festival kicks off in La Villa.

Regarding books and stories, the Literature Festival continues with the presence of author Mónica Ojeda in Yaiza, a municipality that also hosts the event "Cuentos enjaulados" with Claudia Álamo. A photography book is also presented at the José Saramago House Museum.Regarding theater, the play Mary Poppins will be presented in Cuentópolis in San Bartolomé. There will also be humor with Abián Díaz's performance this Friday at La Recova in ArrecifeIn addition, there are several interesting musical events such as the Opera Festival or the closing of the Canary Islands Alternative Music Festival with concerts by Belice, Nave Rota, and Ariel Noure this Saturday in the Plaza del Almacén, which coincides with the 2913 Festival's Photography Festival

CINEMA

 

  • Aminetu. 50 years of occupation 

The César Manrique Foundation hosts the preview screening of the documentary film titled "Aminetu. 50 Years of Occupation" by the Malaga-based production company EntreFronteras.

The film addresses the return home of Sahrawi activist Aminetu Haidar after receiving the Civil Courage Prize in New York in 2009, which turned into a nightmare. At El Aaiún airport, she was expelled by Moroccan police, without a passport, and deported to Lanzarote. There, with no other option, she decides to go on a hunger strike that will last 32 days.

  • Canary Islands Surf Film Festival 

The Canary Islands Surf Film Festival returns to the Museo del Timple in Teguise. The first session on Friday, November 14th, is at 6:30 PM with the talk “Surfing Entrepreneurs,” followed by the screening of the films “A letter from Antarctica,” “People of surfing,” and “Modo avión.” The second session begins at 8:30 PM with the talk “Quemao Class, the dream championship,” followed by the films “Riding the sardine run,” “The red island,” “Little canoe,” and “Chasing the unicorn.”

On Saturday the 15th, the first session at 6:30 PM begins with the talk “Elite fraternal” followed by the films Under & Above and African Territory. The second session starts at 8:30 PM with the talk “Surf on the networks” and the film “The road to Patagonia”.

On Sunday there will be yoga in the Plaza de los Leones, a surfer market, coffee, a tattoo artist, workshops, and DJs. 

When: Thursday, November 14, 15, and 16.

  • Canarian Healers, traditions of healing

The documentary Curanderas Canarias, Tradiciones de Sanación is a tribute to the ancestral knowledge of the Canary Islands. Directed and produced by Beatriz Chinea, this documentary is part of a project promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands, which rescues the traditional knowledge of healers, blessers, herbalists, and midwives of the Archipelago.

After the screening, an open forum will be held with Lanzarote healers Carolina Arraez, Orlando Hernández, and Josefa Acosta.

  • Claudia Álamo. Caged Stories. 

This artistic proposal offers a literary-musical space to share stories and songs that speak of equality, diversity, emotions, respect, or peace. All those elements that impede the freedom of being will be released from their cages

  • Mónica Ojeda. Lanzarote Literature Festival

Writing from the Edge: Body and Transgression in Literature is the title of the talk that the writer Monica Ojeda will offer in Lanzarote. Ojeda, with a poetic and fierce style, explores fear, adolescence, the feminine, and the monstrous. In Lanzarote, she will give a talk, moderated by Festival director Carlos Battaglini, on the limits of language and literature as an exploration of the unsettling and the corporeal.

When: Wednesday, November 19 at 7:30 PM.

  • Mary Poppins in Storyville

In the magical library of Cuentópolis, characters like the tin soldier, Thumbelina, the tooth fairy, or the proud little mouse have lost all hope of being read, but a magical breeze announces the arrival of Mary Poppins, who offers them her help to live new adventures.

The Arrecife Municipal Market hosts the show 'Show Patético' this Friday, by comedian and actor Abián Díaz.

  • Photography Festival. Veintinueve Trece 2025

The Veintinueve Trece photography and visual arts festival concludes its tenth edition by celebrating the Photography Festival, an open day with activities for the whole family: children's workshops, activities for seniors, minute photography, giant camera, art market, guided tours, talks, discussion panels, and a photobook meeting, among other surprises.

El Almacén Square will be the stage for performances by Belice, Nave Rota, and Ariel Noure (DJ set), to close the Canary Islands Alternative Music Festival (FMAC).

  • Lanzarote Opera Festival

The Lanzarote Opera Festival presents the gala "Bel canto spectacular" at the Convent of Santo Domingo in Teguise. On stage, soprano Rocío Pérez, mezzo-soprano Paola Leguizamón, and pianist Ernesto Alemán perform works that exalt the technique, emotion, and elegance of this style, offering an evening that celebrates the beauty and communicative power of the lyrical voice.
