The best of the week from July 17 to 23: film, theater, video games and lots of music

Musical proposals star this week with the Noon Festival in Arrecife, the Mar en Calma Festival in Playa Honda and the Radio 3 concerts in the Recova of the island's capital.

This week includes proposals for film, theater, video games and lots of music. the Summer Traveling Cinema moves to Punta Mujeres and the documentary about the Murals of Argana Baja is screened by the Desidia Association, as well as the film 'La mitad de Ana' in El Almacén. 

In the theater section, El Almacén will host the show 'Surprised, Mexican nun evangelizing culture', by the actress Mónica Lleó and in the exhibitions section Macaronesia is inaugurated, which deals with the transformation of the Atlantic archipelagos that make up Macaronesia since 1975. 

Also this week there are several musical proposals such as the Noon Festival in Arrecife, the Mar en Calma Festival in Playa Honda and the Radio 3 concerts in the Recova of the island's capital.

CINEMA

 

  • Summer Traveling Cinema 2025

The Summer Traveling Cinema returns to Lanzarote, starting today in Arrecife and touring all the municipalities until August 15. With this initiative of Tenique Cultural, the squares and corners of Lanzarote are transformed into open-air seventh art rooms. 

Films for all audiences, presentations that invite you to look with different eyes, open debates and a festive atmosphere make each session an opportunity to enjoy and think about cinema in community. 

This week the films ‘Wall Street’, ’ and Una Segunda Madre’ are screened in Punta Mujeres.

  • Documentary of the Argana Baja Mural Circuit

Arrecife screens the documentary of the “I Argana Baja Mural Circuit”, an audiovisual piece that collects the creation process of the first mural circuit carried out in the Argana Baja neighborhood during the months of July and August 2024, with the participation of the artists JUIN, Evelyn Toledano, Emma LLG and Feoflip, all of them closely linked to the island of Lanzarote.

  • Half of Ana

The Cine Buñuel of El Almacén presents La mitad de Ana, the first film as director of the Spanish actress Marta Nieto, a delicate and luminous story that explores the search for identity of a mother who must rediscover herself to face the upbringing of her transgender daughter.

 In the session on Wednesday, July 23, at the end of the film, a colloquium will be held with the director, Marta Nieto, which will be presented by the actor and director Pedro Ayose.

  • Surprised, Mexican nun evangelizing culture

Surprised, is the new show of the chameleon actress Mónica Lleó, which arises from her experience in a school of nuns, where, according to her, they spoiled her quite well. 

This atypical nun travels the world with her cultural evangelization campaigns and with her surreal humor she takes us from the place where everything is possible, the theater, to ourselves, to propose us to create our own concept of art, culture, religion. In short, to be free thinkers.

Where: El Almacén, Arrecife.

EXHIBITIONS

 

  • Macaronesia 1975-2025

The year 1975 was a key date in the historical development and in the political, social, economic and cultural organization of the Atlantic archipelagos that make up Macaronesia: Cape Verde, Canary Islands, Madeira and Azores. 

This photographic exhibition offers a visual tour of the last fifty years of transformation and is curated by Gabriel Betancort, head of the Audiovisual Funds of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. 

Where: Casa Amarilla, Calle León y Castillo, Arrecife.

When: Inauguration this Friday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. The exhibition lasts until September 23.

  • Esports Neighborhood League 

The Esports Challengers League 2025 started in Valterra and will tour the neighborhoods of Argana, San Francisco Javier and Titerroy, culminating in a grand final that will feature Andy el Messi and the caster Meto.

The competition, which is free and in person, continues this week in Argana Baja, specifically this Friday, July 18.

  • Radio 3 concerts in Arrecife

Radio 3 celebrates a special live edition from Arrecife next Friday as part of the inaugural party of the Arrecife en Vivo 2025 festival. 

The program includes a line-up of artists that mix rock, electronics, neosoul and funk: Los Callaos, JELA x Bliss, Ant Cosmos, Laiv and Denis Rodd DJ Session.

  • Noon Festival. Germán López

Timple and guitar concert by Germán López within the framework of the Noon Canarias 2025 festival. An initiative that seeks to generate meeting spaces between music, art and the public in unconventional schedules.

With a consolidated international career, Germán López has managed to project the timple beyond folklore, fusing it with other genres and giving it a contemporary language.

  • Muchachito Bombo Infierno. Mar en Calma Festival

The Mar en Calma 2025 Festival arrives in Playa Honda with a varied line-up, marked by the prominent presence of the Barcelona group Muchachito Bombo Infierno that fuses rumba, funk, jazz and swing. 

Muchachito's concert will take place on Avenida de Playa Honda at 10:00 p.m. and will be preceded by the Orquesta Trikitrá at 6:30 p.m., followed by Toto el Payaso's clown show and a Drüpe concert.

When: Saturday, July 19 at 10:00 p.m.

Where: Avenida de Playa Honda between Nasa and Ancla streets.
