The family of the Guanapay Folklore Group of Teguise carried out the ruling of the XXIX Guanapay Canary Islands Couplets Contest on Wednesday night at the Timple House-Museum of Teguise. The event began with welcoming words from Olivia Duque, mayoress of the Teguise City Council, supporting this cultural project created within the Guanapay family and which has had the institutional support of the Council from its beginnings.

In addition, Duque asserted that they will continue to support the project and thus motivate all those people who wish to participate with their couplets, which will be part of some of the songs by those groups that request them and thus make them known once they make the corresponding musical arrangements. The recently appointed Councilor for Culture, Andoni Machín, was also present at the event, aware of this call almost from its beginnings, standing by the Guanapay cultural group and collaborating in everything that is possible from his councilorship.

The jury for this edition was made up of: Miriam Hernández, Carmen Ramón and Mari Hernández, in charge of reviewing each of the couplets received over and over again in order to give their verdict, which was unanimous. Miguel Ángel Bermúdez also formed part of the jury as president and Francisco Hernández, Official Chronicler of Teguise who acted as secretary and in charge of announcing the name of the winning couplets and their authors, thus being the final result.

Best Set of Couplets valued at 400 euros to Gran manjar el gofio es..., author Emilio Fernández Batista, resident in Tías, Lanzarote, and the Best Couplet valued at 200 euros to La voz de las Cenizas, author Gerardo Jesús Machín Betancort, resident in Teguise Lanzarote.

The event featured a performance by timple player Alexis Lemes accompanied on guitar by Javier Infante, two great musicians who were joined by the incomparable voice of Sara Bermúdez, a trio that conquered the audience that filled the allowed capacity in the room intended for concerts and who did not stop applauding them in each of the songs they were performing.

Thus, the final point was put to this XXIX Edition of the Guanapay Canary Islands Couplets Contest created in order to promote our literature adapted to the songs of the Canary Islands.
