The heavy rains that occurred this Saturday in Lanzarote gave a small respite and the residents of La Villa de Teguise were able to participate in the first of the scheduled events of Holy Week.

At 5:00 p.m. and at the shelter of the hermitage of the Santísimo Cristo de la Vera Cruz next to the image of the Lord of the Little Donkey, the parish priest of Teguise, Juan Manuel Molina, blessed the olive branches and palms carried by the parishioners. Then, the processional cortege set off through the cobbled streets of the Historic Center of Teguise to the main church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, where the celebration of the Eucharist took place, presided over by the parish priest assisted by the acolytes.

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week that precedes Easter, the central part of the celebration is focused on the reading of 'The Passion of the Lord', according to Saint Matthew, continuing with the Consecration and ending the celebration with the special Blessing corresponding to this Sunday.

The parishioners return to their homes with the blessed branches and palms that are commonly kept in their homes as reminders of this commitment and as symbols of protection and divine blessing.
