The Villa de Teguise celebrated this Wednesday the big day of its festivities in honor of its patron saint Nuestra Señora del Carmen. At 12:00 noon, with the three naves of the main church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe packed, the Solemn Eucharist began, presided over by D. Jorge Luis Martín de la Coba, Secretary General-Chancellor and Episcopal Vicar for the Economy and Heritage.
He was assisted by his fellow priests Venerando Novelle, parish priest of Arucas Gran Canaria; José Antonio Molina, parish priest of San José Obrero - Titerroy and Santa María de La Vega; Leonardo Graterol, parish priest of Tías and Juan Manuel, parish priest of Teguise. The songs were enlivened by the Parish Choir directed by Carmen Herrera.
Once the Eucharist was finished, the procession began, headed by the Teguise Music Band Teguiband, directed by Professor Ayoze Rodríguez. When the image of Nuestra Señora del Carmen crossed the portico of the church, it was received with the ringing of the bells intermingled with the sonorous applause and cheers of the parishioners who were waiting for its departure. Together in procession they toured the cobbled streets of the Historic Site of Teguise.
The celebrating priests, civil and military authorities presided over by the mayoress of the Teguise City Council, Olivia Duque, together with the parishioners made the journey despite the high temperatures until their return to the church where she was dismissed with all the honors, crossing the portico. Once inside, the Salve Marinera was performed.
