The San Bartolomé City Council presented the 1st Heritage Conference - Roots and Future, meetings for the rediscovery of Heritage, organized by the Heritage Area supervised by Councilor Alma González.
The first of the events was framed in the tribute to Facundo Perdomo Rodríguez, Official Chronicler of San Bartolomé. The event took place on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. in the courtyard of the Casa Ajei in San Bartolomé, presented by Zebensui Rodríguez in the role of moderator, giving the floor to the Mayor of the San Bartolomé City Council, Isidro Pérez, who was in charge of inaugurating the conference, which includes conferences and visits touring the cultural and archaeological heritage where the appointment of the new Official Chronicler of San Bartolomé, José Hernández González, will also take place.
Isidro thanked the family of Facundo Perdomo Rodríguez for accepting to participate in this tribute, making a brief review of the role played by Facundo Perdomo as chronicler since 2001 and secretary of the San Bartolomé City Council, whose tasks began in 1953 until his retirement. Facundo passed away in February 2012.
The mayor also spoke about some of the projects that the team he presides over is working on, the most immediate being the reconstruction of the Molina de D. Juan Armas, to continue with some of the signs of identity of the town that have been lost over the years and, as he explained, although some of these establishments no longer exist, at least indicate where they were located, such as La Herrería, the Barberia, the Cartería or the Caza de los Zapateros, etc.
After the mayor's speech, Zebensui Rodríguez began to play his role as moderator of the two invited opponents, Francisco Hernández Delgado, official chronicler of Teguise, and José Hernández González, memorialist of San Bartolomé. Both presented some of the moments about the professional life of Facundo Perdomo from his plot as Official Chronicler of San Bartolomé.
Facundo Perdomo Rodríguez was born in San Bartolomé on November 27, 1922. Son of Eligio Perdomo and Margarita Rodríguez, in 1929 he finished primary school in San Bartolomé, at the hands of Don Antonio Guadalupe and the last course, 7th, under the tutelage of D. José Ferrer.
In 1937, he traveled to Gran Canaria with his family where they set up a small business selling products from Lanzarote, increasing his studies with reviews with teachers D. Pedro Caballero and at the school of D. Emeterio Hernández. Completing Secondary Education in 1940, he presented himself at the Professional School of Commerce of Las Palmas.
In 1946 the family returned to Lanzarote and Facundo applied a few months later for the position of administrative assistant in the San Bartolomé City Council, to whose tasks he attended and in August 1953 he obtained the position in property after overcoming a restricted position. Facundo Perdomo Rodríguez, published multiple articles in various newspapers of the Canary Islands and the Peninsula.
His story A Madrileño in the Sea is his only known literary incursion published in the spring of 2001, of which a new edition has been re-edited by Elena Morales and Escritura entre las Nubes. It collects the complete texts of the first edition revised and updated with notes from the editor, along with a new and extensive prologue (which includes testimonies from two of the author's daughters), a biography of Facundo Perdomo Rodríguez and a section of didactic activities.
With all this to bring the story of the Lanzarote writer closer to students of all ages (from the last years of primary school to those of secondary school and baccalaureate), as well as to any reader who wants to approach the literary universe of the illustrious author.
At the end of the presentations by the official chronicler of Teguise, Francisco Hernández Delgado, and the memorialist of San Bartolomé, José Hernández González, the mayor of the San Bartolomé City Council presented a commemorative plaque to the family of Facundo Perdomo Rodríguez, thus putting the finishing touch to the tribute and recognition to the official chronicler of San Bartolomé.
