Playa Blanca experienced one of its most festive days of the year this Saturday thanks to the brilliance of the spectacle offered by hundreds of masquerades, floats, and music and dance groups, which crossed the heart of the southern tourist town leaving in their wake a trail of joy that ended up infecting the thousands of spectators stationed along the parade route, to then give continuity to the feast to the rhythm of a fair in the Plaza del Carmen.
The allegorical theme of the Playa Blanca 2023 Carnival is the environment and there in the street you could see individual and group costumes and interpretations calling for citizen sensitivity on planetary concerns such as the dumping of plastics and other waste into the sea and the need to separate waste and recycle.
The Yaiza City Council, presided over by Óscar Noda, gives all the credit to the creativity of masquerades, groups responsible for the floats and the artistic and cultural contribution of the great protagonists of the carnival arena: Parranda Marinera Los Buches, Los Diabletes de la Villa de Teguise, murga Los Simplones, comparsa Los Timanfeiros, children's murga Chau Chau, children's murga Los Intoxicaditos, murga Los Intoxicados, batucada Atenya, murga Los Titiroys, comparsa Los Guaracheros, murga Las Inadaptadas, murga Las Revoltosas, batucada Villa Pipol and murga Los Tabletuos.
The parade began after 6:00 p.m. in the Playa Flamingo area, where a large number of people could already be seen, especially tourists, continued along the avenue that leads to the port and then entered the center of Playa Blanca, along Jaime Quesada street, and ended at Avenida Papagayo, where there was no room for anyone. The enthusiasm of the music and dance unleashed emotions, igniting the festive fuse of an afternoon and evening full of joy and good vibes. There was a desire for a carnival arena, and it is that due to the pandemic Playa Blanca had not enjoyed it since 2019. It was about time.
The Councilor for Festivities of Yaiza, Javier Camacho, also thanks the performance of municipal workers in the assembly and organization of the shows and that of the Local Police of Yaiza, Yaiza Civil Protection Group and all the entities and security and emergency bodies that participated with personnel and technical resources in preventive services for the tranquility of everyone. "There are many people who work silently that allows collective enjoyment, so it is fair to value and publicly thank that effort," says the head of the Area.
