The Arrecife Youth Center was the scene this weekend of the final of the I Arrecife Gaming. This tournament, organized by the Department of Youth of the capital's City Council in collaboration with Lanzarote Gaming, has brought together young people from all the neighborhoods of the capital around the popular video game EA Sports FC 24 and has provided an important meeting and entertainment space for the youth of the capital.
Pedro Gil Jiménez, representing the Maneje neighborhood, won the championship title after an intense day of competition in which he faced Yenerey González Mejías, representing the San Francisco Javier neighborhood. The winner took home a voucher for 200 euros to be redeemed at PC Box Arrecife, while the runner-up received a voucher for 100 euros.
Both players have secured their place in the island final of Lanzarote Gaming, which will be held in the coming months with the champions from other municipalities, who will face each other to determine the absolute winner of the island.
This tournament has had participants of all ages and from all neighborhoods. The youngest player was Yerobe Pérez, representing Maneje, who was only ten years old and reached the quarterfinals.
Another notable participant was Marcos Rodríguez, representing Titerroy, who, despite his mobility problems, reached the semifinals of the tournament, demonstrating that inclusion and personal effort are essential values in any event.
Rosmen Quevedo, Arrecife's Councilor for Youth, congratulated the winners and the rest of the participants and expressed his satisfaction with the success of the initiative. "In this first edition of Arrecife Gaming, we have not only seen young people enjoy and compete with sportsmanship, but we have also created an inclusive and participatory space where respect and coexistence have been the protagonists," he said.
