The most relevant events of the last days of Jesus is a story that we all know, that we have seen and heard in various formats, but the merit of the play 'Killing Jesus, a man for the nation', written and directed by Salvador Leal, lies in the fact that it surprises, and a lot, and provokes great emotions, supported by an impressive artistic proposal and production, with more than 50 actors on stage, and the force that the original music played live by Tarambana Band imprints on it, as evidenced by the final ovation, and standing, of more than 900 people surrendered this Wednesday at the premiere held in the Plaza de la Alameda de Yaiza.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, publicly congratulates the artistic and production group "for their effort of more than five months and exquisite work that vindicates culture as an agent of well-being and social change. The commitment to culture must continue to be forceful."

Acting, dialogues, sets, lighting, costumes, creation of different atmospheres, characterizations, music, plus those three points of scenery that contribute together with agile dialogues to the narrative rhythm of the play, come together to offer us a complete spectacle that, in addition to its value as an artistic expression, comes to occupy a cultural space in the Holy Week of Lanzarote that did not have a highly qualified offer of these characteristics.

The play represents the most human Jesus, the most human apostles, and of course, the socio-political environment of the time with a main plot centered on the Jewish conspiracy woven around the death of Jesus of Nazareth.

Power, politics, betrayal and faith are the ingredients of this story that perhaps gives its greatest surprise when from the back of the stage, in its highest space, the cross with the crucified Messiah rises fluidly. Before, the public felt, dragged by art, the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem, the tricks to capture him and the strategy followed to convince the Romans that he should be crucified.

Reactions

Neither the instability of the weather, which threatened with wind and rain during the morning and much of the afternoon, prevented the enjoyment of the public that filled the patio of chairs. The director Salvador Leal emotionally revealed at the end "that there was a lot of tension due to the wind and rain that could get in, but everything went very well and the public was tremendously satisfied."

Leal also praised the team work: "one of the things that gave me security was precisely that team of professional people because there has been an incredible atmosphere among everyone." More than half of the actors are residents of the municipality of Yaiza, some of whom have already participated in other works promoted by the Yaiza City Council under the production of Trama2, a company led by Salvador Leal and Germán Barrios.

Among the public, and as soon as the function ended, video-recorded opinions could also be collected: "to represent such a real story like that, the truth is that it has a lot of effort and rehearsal behind it, so thank you for bringing this to Yaiza"; "the actors were great and the scenography was incredible too"; "the play was impressive, I already had to cry when they raised the cross." Yaiza fully enjoyed the art.
