Ana Sofía Rodríguez Sutil, Lanzarote producer, has contributed to bringing the animated short film The boy with red ears to one of the most important film competitions in the Spanish scene: the Malaga Festival. The short film has been included in the official selection of Navarrese productions that will participate in MAFIZ 2026, the industry area of the festival, where Navarra Film Industry will have its own stand within the Industry Hub.

The short film, directed and written by María Lucía Suárez Barbery, is a Spanish animation piece of 13 minutes long, without dialogues, which narrates the story of a child who grows up in the forest and discovers fire one day when he returns home and finds his mother sick. Through images and sound, the film builds an intimate and symbolic story about childhood, illness, and the search for hope. The short is framed within the genres of drama and fantasy.

A consolidated trajectory in festivals

Before arriving in Malaga, The boy with red ears already has demonstrated its quality at festivals in different countries. It was programmed at the Navarra Shortzinema 2025, promoted by Navarra Film Industry, and has been selected at the Facom Fest (Galicia, Spain) and at the Kare Kare International Animated Film Festival (KKIAFF) of Ankara, Turkey, which speaks of its international projection.

Participation in the Málaga Festival represents a new milestone for the short film and its creative team, and is a source of pride for Lanzarote, which has a young professional paving the way in the Spanish audiovisual industry.
