The Yellow House hosted the inauguration of the exhibition "Photojournalism. A collective vision of Lanzarote" this Thursday afternoon, a show that pays tribute to the professionals who have documented the reality of the island in recent decades and whose work has not always been recognized as it deserves.

The exhibition, organized by the Veintinueve Trece collective and Casa Amarilla, is part of the 10th edition of the Photography and Visual Arts Meeting organized by the association and will remain open to the public until January 31.

“Photojournalism. A collective vision of Lanzarote” gathers the work of up to 22 press photography professionals and addresses the major themes that have marked the recent history of Lanzarote: fishing, agriculture and livestock, tourism, politics, events, social movements, health and education, immigration, art and culture, sports and traditional festivals. The exhibition aims to be an invitation to look at reality from honesty and commitment to reveal that thanks to photojournalism we have visual evidence of our most recent history: the fall of the fishing industry, the rise of tourism, social struggles, democratic consolidation, and the legacy of César Manrique.

The exhibition features works by Adriel Perdomo, Carlos Sotillo, Dory Hernández, Eileen Luna, Fañi García, Felipe de la Cruz, Fran Fajardo, Javi Fuentes, Javier Mayordomo, Javier Sáenz “Javito”, Jesús Porteros, José Luis Carrasco, José Luis Rojas, José María del Corral, Juan Mateos, Kepa Herrero, Luisa Stinga, Miguel Hernández, Noemí Acuña, Pepe Vera, Sergio Betancort, and Suso/Jesús Betancort.

These names represent a significant part of the island's photojournalistic landscape of recent decades. There are also other professionals who, from different media and approaches, constantly contribute to building the visual memory of Lanzarote.

More than 40,000 photographs digitized

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Councilor of the Data Center of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ascensión Toledo, and the director of Veintinueve Trece, Nicolás Melián. Ascensión Toledo had words of recognition for the photographers, but also for the owners of the main media outlets of the island, who "have freely ceded their funds so that they could be digitized by Memoria de Lanzarote. Thanks also to a grant from the Ministry of Culture, more than 40,000 photographs have been digitized, which will now not be lost and will remain for the recent history of the island, and which have been the basis of the documentary collection of this exhibition. Thank you all for your generosity," the councilor insisted.

For his part, Nicolás Melián, director of Veintinueve Trece, has asserted that this exhibition marks a milestone for the association, bringing together the group of photojournalists from the island. As he explained, "it serves to reaffirm the local perspective and reclaim authorship over the image of Lanzarote, at a time when its representation is often constructed from the outside, by those who visit it."

### X Edition of Twenty-Nine Thirteen

This exhibition is part of the 10th edition of the Lanzarote Photography and Visual Arts Encounter. This time, the association invites us to reflect on the collective versus contemporary individualism, with photography as a starting point to create a close dialogue with philosophy, urbanism, the arts, and social practices.

This year's program focuses its main activities between November 10 and 15. It will feature national and international participants who will give specialized workshops and conferences, in addition to events open to the public such as Itziar González Virós's conference on "Social Architecture and Citizen Cooperation," or the screening of "Of Gods and Men" followed by a discussion with writer Santiago Alba Rico, which is being held in collaboration with Tenique Cultural.

In addition to this exhibition, another one, entitled "The Street, a Space of Resistance," can be visited in the Plaza de El Almacén starting this Saturday, October 18.
