The Tías City Council hosted this Wednesday the presentation of the fourth edition of the Lanzarote Literature Festival (FDLL26), a cultural event that will tour different spaces on the island from October 8 to December 2 under the slogan “Letters of rofe and salt” and which will once again have Puerto del Carmen as one of its main venues.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, presided over the presentation along with the councilors of Culture of Tías and Yaiza, Pepa González and César Rijo, and the director of the festival, Carlos Battaglini, who invited citizens to attend the talks. Battaglini highlighted the values of the event, which aims to bring literature closer with quality, open, and free interventions.
Berna González-Harbour, Juan Gómez Bárcena, and Pola Oloixarac at El Centro Cívico El Fondeadero, Ray Loriga at El Almacén, Laura Ferrero and Manuel Vilas at Casa Benito Pérez Armas will be the participating writers in the 2026 edition of this festival, which will feature two workshops to experiment with writing led by Fernando Clemot and Laura Fernández.
In addition, for the first time, an event featuring Canarian talent is offered through the proposal called Combustión insular, which will consist of literary conversations in Teguise with Julio Fajardo, Alicia Llarena, Acoidán Méndez, and Natacha Mendoza.
José Juan Cruz highlighted during the presentation the importance of Puerto del Carmen continuing to incorporate benchmark cultural proposals into its programming and pointed out that “it is a satisfaction that a festival of these characteristics once again counts on Puerto del Carmen and the Centro Cívico El Fondeadero as spaces for the meeting between writers and readers.”
In Pepa González's words, “Puerto del Carmen is a place for meeting and welcoming, and we also want it to be so through culture and the excellent pens that this festival brings us. Literature allows us to hear other voices, reflect, and share, and during these weeks we will have the opportunity to do so with authors of recognized prestige.”
The festival's program includes three encounters at the Centro Cívico El Fondeadero in Puerto del Carmen. The first will take place on October 20, at 7:30 p.m., with the journalist and writer Berna González-Harbour, who will address the dialogue between fiction, journalism, and reality.
On October 27, also at 7:30 p.m., it will be the turn of the writer Juan Gómez Bárcena, who will reflect on the boundaries between history and fiction and on the way literature can reinterpret the past. Finally, on November 5, at 7:30 p.m., the public will be able to meet the writer Pola Oloixarac, who will talk about literature, the internet, algorithms, desire, and new ways of constructing identity.
The Tías City Council thus maintains its collaboration with the Lanzarote Literature Festival. The council supports the cultural project promoted by the Cultural Association Picón Narrativa, which has among its objectives bringing literature and its protagonists closer to the island's public.
