During this month of August, the Culture Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, chaired by Oswaldo Betancort, has prepared a varied cultural and leisure agenda that will make people who love leisure and culture immerse themselves in the creative and expressive richness of the island.

“One more month we are developing a complete agenda of events that continues with our marked objective of extending the various artistic expressions to all our residents and visitors, also in the summer months”, said Jesús Machín Tavío, Island Culture Councilor. For more information on each of the activities, specific dates and ticket purchase, you can visit the website of the Culture Area.

Opera

The Auditorium of Jameos del Agua hosts this August 17 the operatic performance Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, inspired by the original work of Tirso de Molina El burlador de Sevilla or El convidado de piedra.

Since its premiere in 1787, this jocose drama has fascinated the entire audience with its unique combination of comedy, action, melodrama and supernatural elements, becoming one of the most performed operas worldwide. Great vocal and musical display thanks to a cast of recognized world prestige.

Music

Within the framework of the 21st Tensamba Festival, El Almacén presents the Baião de Duas duo composed of two Brazilian musicians based in Spain. Both share a deep passion for the rhythms of their homeland and are dedicated to exploring the percussion and rhythm of the great classics of Brazilian music.

The songs are adapted and arranged by the duo itself whose interest is to give their personal musical imprint through a new interpretive vision.

Exhibitions

In El Almacén you can still visit the two exhibition projects inaugurated last month. The first of these is Fiesta by Cristóbal Tabares, where he represents the party as a social event, a tribute to the plastic representation of the traditions that shape the ways of life that shape us as individuals and as a community. The second, Sea of Stone, represents the sculptural work of the conejero sculptor Paco Curbelo.

On the other hand, in the International Museum of Contemporary Art, MIAC, you can visit The nature of things, the first individual exhibition of the Spanish photographer Chema Madoz in the Canary Islands. This project brings together fifty black and white photographs, in which Chema Madoz creates poetic metaphors from everyday objects.

This Saturday also takes place the inauguration of The voice of the earth in the Casa Amarilla, an exhibition that commemorates the sixty years of existence of the folk group Los Campesinos, Gold Medal of the Canary Islands, and is also a tribute to the purest essence of rural life, a lyrical testimony. The voice of the earth is a journey through the traces of time, an invitation to contemplate the raw beauty of Lanzarote through its folklorists.

In addition, the exhibitions Diqui diqui by Julio Mesa in El Almacén and A vueltas con la tierra, by José L. Luzardo, in the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz are also still valid.

Videodance

Poetas del jable is a contemporary video dance work created by Javier Ferrer that explores the symbiotic relationship between the human body and the natural elements: the wind, the sun and the earth. Through dance, the dancer conscientiously explores these elements, creating a work that captures the essence of the original landscape of Lanzarote. Poetas del jable is a project promoted by Los Campesinos. It can be enjoyed until the end of September in El Almacén.

Talks

On August 13, El Almacén hosts an entertaining and playful conversation between Cristóbal Tabares and the Lanzarote actor Pedro Ayoze, moderated by the writer Mare Cabrera. From a humorous and ironic perspective, some aspects of the rich universe of festive celebrations will be addressed, emphasizing the libertarian and transgressive dimensions of carnivals or the dark backrooms of beauty contests, as events that generate dystopian and bizarre news.

Literature

The writers Ale Coello and Juli Mesa take us on a literary walk to the village of Soo to make a poetic immersion. Through a small tour of the village, accompanied by dialogues and readings, both writers will show us curiosities, fears, longings, feelings and aspects related to writing, orality, identity, memory, words and the insular landscape as creative engines of the visual and literary universe of Juli Mesa.

Cinema

One more year Cine Ambulante de Verano returns, a project whose main objective is to complement the cultural offer of the summer with film sessions for the whole family. It is about recovering the experience of the old outdoor cinemas in which the most important thing was to enjoy in the company of the people of the town or neighborhood.

Tenique Cultural selects films with special care, seeking a balance between cinematographic quality, interesting themes and good entertainment that reaches all the municipalities of Lanzarote. All films are preceded by a presentation about their importance and cultural interest.
