Guide to enjoy San Juan night in Lanzarote

The most awaited night that will celebrate the beginning of summer, comes loaded with activities throughout the island

San Juan's night, a magical night with a traditional festivity in Lanzarote, the perfect moment to write wishes on a paper, make bonfires and even jump the waves on the seashore. A celebration so important for the island, that until a few years ago, that day was not worked. In the 60s, the people of Lanzarote tried to finish their work in the fields to enjoy the night with their family and friends.

Among some traditional activities of the island, which are celebrated every year in its municipalities, is the burning of a doll called Facundo, which has been made by a neighbor of Punta Mujeres since 1964. In addition, several young people from Haría dress up as "Devils", a tradition that has been going on for 20 years and in which, in its early years, they mysteriously appeared that night to surprise the public at the moment when the bonfires were lit. With clothing made by themselves along with masks that have the peculiarity of being able to break the mold afterwards after their realization.

Another custom that takes place during San Juan is the roasting of pineapples that are roasted directly in the fire of the bonfires.

For the dawn of this Friday of San Juan, several municipalities of the island will carry out activities to welcome the festivity. In the case of Haría, the municipality in which it is most celebrated, at 9:00 p.m. there will be a concert in its square, in which the group La Raíz a la Tierra will perform. To finish before the arrival of dawn with the burning of Facundo's fire, Fire Dance and fireworks in the lot next to the square, which will culminate with the verbena of Los Conejeros and Banda Nueva.

In Playa Honda the festivity will have more diverse activities, with several concerts such as the group Treintaytantos at 9:00 p.m., a tribute to Manny Manuel and even DJ Ángel Pérez, at 10:30 p.m. In addition, much earlier at 8:00 p.m. there will be a Latin rhythms workshop.

Also in Puerto del Carmen and Arrecife, they have an agenda of plans for that night. In the first municipality, a barbecue and dances will be held with the Sondemar Group and Parranda Pal' Porrón on Bajamar street at 8:30 p.m. While for Arrecife, the planned activities, starting at 6:00 p.m. in the Islas Canarias Park, several groups such as Los 600, Che Sudaka and Grupo Bomba will perform until the arrival of the burning of bonfires and fireworks at 9:00 p.m.

Finally, in Playa Blanca, municipality of Yaiza, the groups Inerxia and Sin Cobertura will perform in the Plaza del Carmen starting at 7:30 p.m.
