Folklore and tradition enlivened Canary Islands Day this May 30 in Yaiza. Five music groups, which were playing and dancing in public squares, between the towns of Uga and Playa Blanca, provided the folkloric note in the commemorative events for the Great Day of the Autonomous Community.
In addition, on Wednesday and Thursday, Uga and Playa Blanca celebrated this special day with stalls, as well as the institutional flag-raising ceremony on Limones Street in Playa Blanca, presided over by the mayor, Óscar Noda, where the Yaiza Municipal Band offered a "wonderful" concert by its director, Geovanni Noda.
The purely festive two-day celebration began with the sunset in Uga in the municipal market square in an atmosphere that breathed tradition. Wine and cheese from the land to fraternize around the table and batteries charged to go out dancing. The Agrupación Folklórica Guágaro's body of touch opened the stall, joined by the Agrupación Folklórica Tonique's dance troupe, invited by the City Council from the Island of Tenerife.
Then came the turn of the Tenerife residents with the night in the sky of Uga. The members of Tonique sang and danced while more public joined the celebration. There was a desire to party, so attendance was maintained until the performance of the El Geito band ended, mixing interpretation of traditional Canarian music and Latin American songs. It was the grand finale of Wednesday.
The celebration continued this Thursday in the same municipality of Yaiza, but further south, in the tourist town of Playa Blanca. The morning began with the institutional act, simple, short and solemn, to give maximum prominence to the music of the Yaiza Municipal Band. Nearly forty-five minutes interpreting classics and popular themes with an attentive and dedicated public that knew how to value the good work of the artists directed by Geovanni Noda.
A few steps from the concert venue, another stage awaited to continue the celebration. It was the turn of the exhibition of boys and girls from the Canarian Wrestling School of the Unión Sur Yaiza Club on the small beach of Playa Blanca. Every week the quarry of the native sport trains there under the direction of Tomás Quesada, a great forger of southern fighters who also enjoyed the exhibition day. And there was still the afternoon left. The public moved to Plaza del Carmen to eat and have some wine to dance with the groups Son del Norte and Son de Mar. It wasn't as hot as last year, so families could enjoy a happy and peaceful day.
