El Salinero hosts a gala for the 30th Anniversary of Mararía

The Social and Cultural Association for women Mararía, celebrated the 30th Anniversary Gala last Thursday night at the Insular Theater Víctor Fernández Gopar "El Salinero". The gala began with a performance by the Parranda Marinera de Los Buches, musically directed by Professor Roberto Gil and with dance choreographies by Rubén Valiente.

When the first musical chords began to sound, the corridors of the theater's stalls filled with a colorful atmosphere. The members of the dance troupe, very well supported by the audience, joined their voices and sang their songs, thus adding a seafaring flavor to the event. During the show, the number of children, young people, and women who have joined the parranda and considerably increased the dance troupe was particularly striking.

The president of Los Buches, Juan Antonio Machado, presented the president of Mararía, Nieves Rosa Hernández, with the Institutional Medal on the occasion of the '30th Anniversary'. Next, the rhythm of the gala completely changed from revelry to the poetic part with one of the great Canarian poets, Elsa López, who, accompanied by singer Ayla Rodríguez and guitarist Tomás Pereira, offered a selection of original songs performed simultaneously by Ayla and Tomás. These pieces were interspersed with the poems of Elsa López, a performance highly valued by the audience who continued to reward it with their applause.

The association Mararía, which was the organizer of the gala, also had its space in which the protagonist was Nieves Rosa Hernández, who was accompanied by the Minister of Education and Universities of the Government of the Canary Islands, Migdalia Machín. An emotional Nieves Rosa was supported and thanked everyone for their collaboration in making the gala possible and made a review of the trajectory that she once championed and continues to champion today: the struggle to complete the many projects that still lie ahead.

Migdalia Machín also shared what was stated by Nieves Rosa and insisted that "we must not lower our guard and continue working" to achieve equality between men and women and eradicate gender violence. At the end of the speeches, the president and the minister merged in an emotional embrace that was highly applauded by the public. Immediately afterwards, the performance of the folk group Los Campesinos took place, with women and men who also advocate for equality and freedoms and, responding to the call of Mararía, did not hesitate to collaborate by singing and dancing with the most traditional of our land: performing isa, sorondongo, folia and malagueñas, etc.

Mararía is a non-profit entity with a national scope whose purpose is to offer comprehensive care to women in the social, legal, cultural, labor, psychological, educational and professional fields, as well as to propose and carry out actions of a divulgative or vindictive nature of women's rights. The association arose from the initiative of a group of women highly involved in the social field and began its journey in 1994.
