David Asorey Callero has proclaimed the Risco festivities in Los Ancones, formally beginning the festive celebration of this population center of the municipality of Teguise, with less than a hundred residents. David Asorey Callero recalled memories and experiences. Among other things, he said: "My first childhood memories of Los Ancones were being in what was the warehouse of my grandmother's house. It was summer. At the back there was a room where my grandfather was in bed, whose image is the last memory I have of him. A posteriori, my grandmother's house had no floor, no electricity or water, but what there was, apart from the kitchen, the bathroom, the television, etc., were several mattresses all over the
floor, where the cousins stayed to sleep and we threw ourselves playing.".
"Before the arrival of the first Risco festivities of Los Ancones, we had a group of friends, at least 12 of us, and there was youth. Our routine was the same for every day; in the mornings, we had breakfast, someone would come to pick me up and we would start knocking on the doors of the houses to look for the rest of the group to go to the beach until noon, since we had to go up for lunch, otherwise, we would be scolded. After lunch, and without digesting, we ran back to the beach. We spent the nights covered in saltpeter, with a sandwich in hand that was directly our dinner; we played cards in the dark, we went around the town, we looked at the stars and, when we felt like it, in the dark, we went along the road in the direction of Costa Teguise to have dinner at the pizzeria or go to Las Cucharas, where we talked about our concerns.".
Popular festivals in 2004
"With the arrival of the summer of 2004, Sergio came up with the idea of holding popular festivals. I remember that we met at Candelaria's house to rehearse the playback and the theater. We made our program by hand and distributed it as we do today, throughout the town and with the can in hand, asking the neighbors for their willingness to cover the costs of the festivals. We built the stage with a bit of everything: from what we found at home, in the neighbors' houses for the decoration, and the sidewalk of Marta's house (which served as our stage) and the town enjoyed watching the show. From there, our first festival of Los Ancones.".
"I cannot finish this proclamation without first mentioning our founders of the town of Los Ancones Juanito and Guillermina and in the commitment to fulfill their promises. As you know, last year it was possible to bring the patron saint Nuestra Señora de Candelaria from Tenerife. I also have to mention our patron saint San Juan Bautista, who we hope will be with us soon. To the board of directors of the association for being there, for taking out the program and the festivals one more year.".
"And now, as a final point, I invite the citizens of the entire island to participate in these festivals, where leisure, culture and devotion are the protagonists in the smallest town in Teguise." After the reading of the proclamation and to end the event, the performance of the singer Elvia took place.
