The Arrecife City Council has prepared a program of recreational and sports events for San Juan, which will have its highlight next Thursday, June 23 on El Reducto beach.
The event will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with a concert by DJ Nandy, Tio Matt and Kardomillo, as well as "a popular barbecue by the heat of a large bonfire." The lighting will take place at 9:30 p.m. and will culminate at midnight with fireworks.
In addition, the capital also hosts several sporting events on the occasion of this holiday. The first, "Beach Volleyball", started on Monday and will end this Wednesday, organized jointly by the volleyball section of the Arrecife Sports Club and the Department of Sports.
El Reducto beach will also be the setting this Wednesday, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., for an open day organized by the Marlines de Lanzarote Canoeing Club and the Department of Sports, where you can enjoy canoes and sea kayaks for free. Finally, on Saturday, June 25, the 'XVIII San Juan Swimming Crossing' will take place, organized by the Royal Arrecife Nautical Club.
From the City Council they emphasize that this program of events has been the result "of the coordinated work of the municipal areas of Festivities, directed by Encarna Páez; Tourism, directed by Armando Santana; and Sports, directed by Rosmen Quevedo".
The mayor, Astrid Pérez, has expressed her "joy" because "after many years without anything being organized by the City Council, this government group has developed an attractive program for the San Juan festival, for which we will be able to fully enjoy a night full of tradition and symbolism."
Bonfires only with permission
From the City Council they remind that it is necessary to request permission to make bonfires and that they can only be carried out on urban or agricultural land in exploitation, under the conditions of the edict issued for this purpose.
It is not allowed to light bonfires on beaches and bathing areas of the coast, with the exception of the municipal bonfire on El Reducto beach.
