The fishing village of Caleta Caballo began its 'La Lapa' festivities last Friday, August 18, which ended last Sunday, August 27. A festivity that has coincided with the 25th anniversary of Caleta Caballo.

This year, as a novelty, the town has decided to bring the festivities forward to this month of August. "People have been very happy about the change of date," says Rita Martín, collaborator of the group of organizers of the festivities, to La Voz. She reveals that "the young people themselves have asked for it, as it coincided with the pilgrimage of Los Dolores in September."

In addition, she has announced that the festivities from this year will be held "in August" after the "success" of the decision to change this 2023. A necessary choice "for those of us who are in the town and those who come from outside who meet with their families and friends", adds Martín.

"From now on the festivities will be held in August"

In the program of the festivities, there were many outstanding activities during the last weeks of this month. The 'Canarian Ball Tournament', a workshop for children with children's games, the traditional 'La Ronda Card Tournament', among many others.

As a novelty, they organized an interpreted walk along the coast of Caleta Caballo, in which the different beaches and the history of La Lapa were taught. In addition, for the older population there was a flower workshop, also the 'Café con Leche' concert, aquagym and yoga, a bacutada with the group 'Menuda Caña' and the performance of other folk groups.

The highlight was the swimming crossing and the wig race on Saturday, August 26. Accompanied by the children's playback, the performance of Braulio Betancort and a verbena with DJ Adrián and Los Conejeros, as the culmination of the night.

For the last day, Sunday, August 27, the festivities ended with the maritime procession, a traditional and short event that had "difficulties" due to the climate that was "with the wind", concludes Rita Martín.
