Arrecife will host this weekend the great wrestling match within the San Ginés festivities

The clubs Unión Sur Yaiza, Club Laguneta de Tinajo and the women's wrestling club Tinecheide are part of the great events program

The Municipal Government of Arrecife, led by Mayor Yonathan de León, is increasing the presence of native sports in the extensive program of the patron saint festivities in honor of San Ginés Obispo.

The Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the PP spokesperson, and Councilor for Tourism, Commerce and Sports, Eli Merino, presented this Thursday in La Recova the poster for the great wrestling match that will be held on El Reducto beach, within the program of sporting events in the San Ginés festivities, under the impulse of the Department of Sports.

Yonathan de León, highlighted that "from the City Council we assume our institutional commitment to recover and promote traditional sports, and we are rescuing Canarian wrestling, as we achieved last year, within the Arrecife patron saint festivities".

In addition to its inclusion in the sports program, the City Council is planning the construction of a municipal wrestling arena where the preliminary projects have been contracted, in a multipurpose building.

Councilor Eli Merino explained that this wrestling match in the San Gines festivities will feature the participation of the clubs Unión Sur Yaiza, Club Laguneta de Tinajo and the women's wrestling club Tinecheide are part of the great events program organized by the Department of Sports.

Canarian wrestling is considered one of the greatest symbols of Canarian identity, uniting all the islands with a sport of aboriginal past that promotes values such as nobility, respect, camaraderie and sportsmanship on the wrestling ground.

This coming Saturday, August 16, at 6:00 p.m., El Reducto beach is transformed into a wrestling ground for this great exhibition, in the commitment made by the capital's City Council to promote this great vernacular sport, where Arrecife, like other towns in Lanzarote, has been the cradle of important wrestlers and 'chickens'.
