The musical events programmed in the San Ginés festivities are being followed by a large audience that enjoys each of the performances.
On Monday night at 8:30 p.m., the 'Traditional Music Encounter' took place. The Councilor for Festivities of the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, was in charge of welcoming the event and announced the suspension of the performance of 'Los Viejos de Las Palma', motivated by the dust in suspension on the island that affected air traffic and prevented the group from leaving the beautiful island. In its place, the group 'Jaleo con Pancho Corujo' performed in order to continue with the program.
The event began with the performance of the Choir 'El Cribo Canta'. A vocal group formed in 2002 that brings together family members, patients and friends driven by the engine of music and the desire to share experiences. It is an initiative open to the participation of people with mental health problems, their families and volunteers whose main purpose is to make visible and fight against the stigma associated with mental illness. The choir is directed by the professor, Arnold Bonilla, and performed a repertoire of popular songs such as Piel Canela, El Vendedor, Fulgida Luna, Mariposita, Lagrimas Negras, etc.
The public supported them at all times with their applause and before finishing their performance, the president of the El Cribo Mental Health Association, Rosa María González, addressed all those present thanking them for the support received and especially the Councilor for Festivities, Echedey Eugenio, for having given them the opportunity to participate in the San Ginés festivities since the group was "very excited to make mental illness visible in this way."
The second part of the meeting was enlivened by the group 'Jaleo con Pancho Corujo', formed by Pepe Martín - voice and guitar, Rober González - Tres, Genaro Pérez - percussion and Pancho Corujo - voice and timple. 'Jaleo y Pancho Corujo', chose a very varied repertoire intermingling songs of Canarian and Latin American roots. Songs to which the public joined humming some of their refrains 'Pacho Corujo y Jaleo' won the affection of the public who very animatedly asked him to continue singing, ending with a salsa medley. Pancho Corujo, town crier of the San Ginés festivities 2021, was very happy, although in an improvised way, to participate once again in the festivities of which he has very good memories of his childhood.
