The TSJC ratifies the conviction against the cook who murdered his boss in Puerto del Carmen

The accused was convicted by the First Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas for a crime of murder with treachery

Trial of the cook accused of killing the owner of a restaurant in Puerto del Carmen

The Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) has dismissed the appeal filed by the defense of the man who killed the owner of the bar where he worked in Lanzarote.

The accused was convicted by the First Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas for a crime of murder with treachery, with the simple extenuating circumstance of anomaly or psychic alteration due to a diagnosed mental disorder. Now it is the TSJC who ratifies the conviction. The sentence imposed by the Court was 17 years in prison, absolute disqualification during the time of the sentence as well as the payment of court costs, also those of the private prosecution.

The events took place on August 1, 2019, the Gran Canarian Jesús Carlos (fictitious name) worked as a cook in the Las Vegas Restaurant, located on Avenida de Las Playas in Puerto del Carmen. The worker killed his boss, the Moroccan Ahmed (fictitious name) with a sharp-bladed knife after an argument.

Ahmed was sweeping the floor of the premises at that time. At that moment, the condemned grabbed him from behind, and stabbed him in the left side of the neck. The victim then left the premises on his own and wandered around the street in bewilderment, covering the serious wound with his hands while asking for help.

At that moment the condemned would have attacked his boss again, cutting his jugular vein and ending his life. This prevented the people who tried to help him from doing anything to save him.

To enjoy the third degree he must serve half of the total sentence. In addition, the condemned must compensate the victim's wife and her three children aged six, four and one year at the time of their father's death with a total of 200,000 euros for the moral damage caused after the death of her husband.

The accused remains in prison since August 1, 2019.
