The head of the Investigating Court number 3 of Madrid has extended the investigation of the Cuarteles case, an alleged corruption plot that investigates possible irregularities in the awards of contracts for rehabilitation and painting of barracks of the Civil Guard to the businessman from Lanzarote Ángel Ramón Tejera for works that were not carried out or were done halfway, and has added a possible crime of bribery.

The judge sees indications of a possible crime of bribery or bribery in the actions of the four investigated: the businessman from Lanzarote Ángel Ramón Tejera, alias "Mon", the former head of the Civil Guard Command of Ávila Carlos Alonso Rodríguez, Lieutenant General Pedro Vázquez Jarava, as well as a self-employed worker.

In addition to the crimes of continued falsehood in an official document and embezzlement that she was investigating until now, the magistrate has extended the indictment to a crime of bribery, in line with the criteria of the Prosecutor's Office, which recently pointed to the existing indications of this type of crime in the case, according to El Periódico de España and confirmed to EFE by legal sources.

Judge Isabel Durántez has issued an order in which she considers that the case should be transformed into a procedure before the jury court and summons the four investigated on May 17 to hold the "hearing" provided for in article 25 of the Jury Court Law, in which all parties are summoned to specify the charges or request dismissal, and to request the steps they deem necessary.

May 17 is the day that Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Alonso Rodríguez was already scheduled to appear at his own request. Now, in addition to him, Lieutenant General Pedro Vázquez Jarava, who was responsible for the General Subdirectorate of Support of the Civil Guard, businessman Ángel Ramón Tejera de León, whose name appears in the summary of the Mediador case, and another businessman must do so.

In this case, the magistrate is investigating whether, as denounced by Internal Affairs of the Armed Institute, there were irregularities in the awarding of works to thirteen command posts throughout Spain, which were not carried out or were partially carried out after being awarded to Tejera de León for a total value of 3.3 million euros between 2008 and 2019.

Now the case, which has recently been taken over by the prosecutor Virna María Alonso Fernández, specialized in economic matters, on behalf of the Prosecutor's Office, is pending the preparation of an expert report to determine whether the works undertaken are in accordance with the invoices.
