The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has declared Raúl Díaz Cachón guilty this Friday of killing, burning, dismembering and disposing of the corpse of his wife Romina Celeste during New Year's Eve 2018.

Last Tuesday the Jury Court issued a guilty verdict, to which is now added the decision of the magistrate José Luis Goizueta. The Court has sentenced Raúl Díaz Cachón to 15 years, nine months and four days in prison, 10 years of supervised release, disqualification from passive suffrage during the term of the sentence and the impossibility of carrying weapons.

In addition, he must pay the costs of the trial and the already deposited 260,000 euros, as compensation for the mother and children of the victim.

Raúl Díaz Cachón, confessed author of the death of his wife, the young Romina Celeste, has been declared guilty of a crime of homicide, habitual abuse, two crimes of injury in the context of gender violence, desecration of the corpse and simulation of crime.

The Madrid native Raúl Díaz admitted to killing the young Paraguayan woman in the family home of both, located in Costa Teguise, on December 31, 2018. After that, he burned part of her corpse on the barbecue, dismembered her with his hands and using tools that could not be determined, put the remains of his wife in garbage bags and threw them into the sea in the following days.

On January 5, a piece of lung of Romina Celeste was found on a beach in the municipality of Teguise, the only remains of the victim that were found, and which served to compare the DNA and corroborate that it was her.

On January 8, after having killed his wife, the murderer went to the Civil Guard to report the disappearance of Romina Celeste, "despite knowing that such disappearance had not occurred".

In the case, an aggravating factor of gender was appreciated, which was accepted by the jury and admitted by the accused himself, by showing "lack of respect" and "contempt" towards the victim "because of her condition as a woman".
