The Cabildo will finally pay Haría 15.2 million for the conflict of La Cueva de Los Verdes

This legal dispute dates back more than a decade, when the Justice ruled in favor of the Haría City Council and condemned the council to pay 12.9 million, to which interest is now added.

The Contentious-Administrative Court number 5 of Las Palmas has partially estimated the execution incident filed by the representation of the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the conflict of the Cueva de Los Verdes and the first island institution will have to pay 12.9 million euros, plus 2.3 million euros in interest to the Haría City Council.

The judicial ruling rejects "the main reason for opposition" included in the appeal of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, which tried to avoid paying interest to the City Council, and agrees to go from the 5.6 million demanded by the council to 2.3

This judicial conflict dates back to more than a decade ago, when in February 2015 the Courts ruled in favor, in a final judgment, of the City Council and condemned the island institution, then presided over by Pedro San Ginés, to pay the profits obtained in the Cueva de Los Verdes between November 25, 2010 and November 3, 2016. Then, the council requested the payment of legal interest accrued from this period.

The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, has highlighted the importance of this resolution in a litigation that dates back more than a decade. "From the Cabildo we have always defended that the management of public resources must be rigorous and transparent, and this order ratifies our commitment to the defense of the interests of the island," he said.

Betancort stressed that the management of the conflict has been defended entirely by the legal advice of the Corporation, without resorting to external firms. In addition, he reiterated the relevance of this agreement to guarantee the preservation and correct use of one of Lanzarote's main tourist assets.
