The Prosecutor's Office is asking for a five-year prison sentence for a man who was arrested at the Lanzarote airport with 1,117.5 grams of cocaine inside his body and who will be tried by the First Section of the Provincial Court on September 13 in Arrecife.
According to the indictment, the events took place on October 12, 2020, when the accused, whose initials are S.U.A. arrived on the island on a Ryanair flight from Brussels, "with the purpose of introducing toxic drugs into the illicit market for their subsequent sale and distribution."
Specifically, he was carrying "a total of 75 plastic wrappers" inside his body with the drug, which had "a purity of 46.27%". According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, it would have reached a "value of 67,533.88 euros" on the illicit market.
The Prosecutor's Office considers that the events constitute a crime against public health, in the form of substances that cause serious damage to health, and therefore considers that the accused should be sentenced to five years in prison. However, it indicates that the time spent in provisional detention, in which he has been since October 13, 2020, after being arrested for these events, must be paid to the defendant.
In addition to the prison sentence, he requests a fine of 202,601.63 euros with the subsidiary personal responsibility of 11 months of deprivation of liberty.
