Prosecutor's Office requests eight years in prison for a man arrested at the airport with cocaine and heroin

The Public Prosecutor's Office also demands a fine of nearly 800,000 euros for the accused, who was carrying almost two kilos of drugs "camouflaged in the suitcase"

The Prosecutor's Office is asking for an eight-year prison sentence for a man who was arrested at Lanzarote airport with around a kilo of cocaine and another of heroin and who will be tried next Tuesday, April 13, in Lanzarote, by the Sixth Section of the Provincial Court. 

The events took place in February 2020, when the defendant arrived on the island on a flight from Brussels. According to the indictment, M.R. had "camouflaged" in his suitcase "a plastic bag" containing "1,020 grams of cocaine, 78.46% purity; 1,098 grams of substance not subject to supervision and 993 grams of heroin with an average richness of 48.90%". 

In this regard, it is indicated that the cocaine would have reached a value of 102,525.094 euros in the illicit market and, in the case of heroin, 373,675 euros. 

In addition, at the time of his arrest, "1,181 euros were seized from the accused.

 

Fine of nearly 800,000 euros 

The Public Prosecutor's Office considers that the purpose of the accused was to "introduce toxic drugs into the illicit market for subsequent sale and distribution" and that the facts constitute a crime against public health, in the form of substances that cause serious damage to health and are "of notorious importance". 

In addition to requesting a sentence of eight years in prison, it also asks for the accused to pay a fine of 791,775.376 euros. 

The indictment states that the time spent in provisional detention, which he entered one day after his arrest, must be paid to the accused.
