The Prosecutor's Office is requesting 25 years in prison for a squatter of a house in Arrecife accused of setting fire to the house in which he resided with seven other people and causing the death of a woman. According to La Provincia, the trial will begin next Monday in the City of Justice of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The events took place around 06:00 hours on January 11, 2017, in a property owned by Banco Santander located at Calle Hermanos Zerolo number 3 and 5 in Arrecife, with entrance on Calle El Hierro. According to the Public Prosecutor, Abdelaziz M., born in Morocco and 45 years old, emptied a gasoline can inside the house after arguing with another man who also lived there and knowing that the rest of the occupants were inside.
Six people were trapped inside the house, Ahmed B., Jilali H., Hassan E., J.G., Osel D., and Dolores Pérez, of whom the last three were seriously injured. In the case of the woman, she suffered burns on 51% of her body and ended up dying on April 23 in the Burn Unit of the Virgen del Rosario Hospital in Seville, where she was transferred from the day of the events.
According to La Provincia, in addition to requesting a total of 25 years in prison for a crime of arson in ideal competition with two of injuries and in turn with one of murder, the Public Prosecutor's Office requests compensation of 220,000 euros for the children of Dolores Pérez and 115,398.65 euros for J.G., leaving the amount to be paid to Osel D. to the judge's discretion, to be determined according to the forensic report. The Prosecutor's Office also requests that Abdelaziz M. serve his sentence in Spain.
