The president of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres (PSOE), has ordered legal action to be taken against the intermediary who gives his name to the "Mediator case", Marco Antonio Navarro Tacoronte, for the statements he has made in various media outlets.

In several interviews broadcast this Friday, Navarro Tacoronte has maintained that Torres knew what was happening in the Ministry of Agriculture, where allegedly files were archived or sanctions were reduced for farmers in exchange for bribes that, among others, were allegedly collected by one of those involved in the plot, Taishet Fuentes, Director General of Livestock until last summer.

This Friday, Torres had already flatly denied that he knew anything about what the "Mediator case" has revealed and stressed that, had he been aware of the dealings of Navarro or the rest of those arrested, he would have immediately gone to Justice.

An official spokesman for the Canary Islands Government has told EFE that, after analyzing the content of the intermediary's different statements, Torres "has ordered that all necessary legal actions be taken in the face of the serious and false accusations made" against him "in different media by Marco Antonio Navarro Tacoronte".

"The investigated person has made false accusations asserting that the president was aware of the plot that is being investigated in court," the source added.
