The First Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has judged this Tuesday in Arrecife five defendants accused of introducing and distributing drugs in Lanzarote.
The events date back to July 29, 2019, when the defendant Jessica Lorena was arrested upon arrival at terminal one of the Lanzarote Airport for carrying 911 grams of cocaine in a suitcase. The defendant came from a flight from Madrid and carried luggage with a double bottom, according to the Civil Guard agents who intervened in the operation during the trial.
Jessica Lorena was arrested in a routine operation by the Benemérita within the airport customs. As a result of her arrest, a police operation began to try to clarify who provided the defendant with the drug in Madrid and what was going to happen to the narcotic substance once it arrived on the island. In her case, she remained in provisional prison from July 30, 2019 to November 16, 2020.
After this arrest, the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team of Las Palmas of the Civil Guard intercepted the detainee's cell phone. The electronic device, despite being used by her, was owned by Diego Fernando, another of the defendants.
After Jessica's arrest, the Civil Guard agents pointed out that Diego Fernando allegedly provided cocaine to Jessica Lorena's sister, who does not appear as an accused in the case. According to the police investigation, after tapping Diego's cell phone, they found conversations where they talked about "chickens" and the price of the alleged drug.
The Prosecutor's Office, in line with the police investigation, maintains that Warrinton and Diego Fernando allegedly devised the transfer of the drug that Jessica Lorena was going to bring to the island.
The police investigation argues that Diego traveled with Jessica to Madrid, days before she was arrested on the return trip to Lanzarote. However, the defendant's defense assures that they shared a plane, but did not travel together.
The police investigation placed Warrinton at the center of the plot, whom the Civil Guard located at the airport months later with 5,000 euros in cash, hidden among his clothes. The Prosecutor's Office places him as the leader of the operation. However, during the search of his home they did not locate drugs, but they did find two mobile terminals and cash and a hydraulic press.
Thus, this investigation concluded that Diego and Warrinton shared locations in the Usera neighborhood of Madrid. In addition to Addison calling Warrinton frequently.
For his part, regarding the defendant Nelson, the police investigation concluded that he was allegedly in charge of distributing the drug and maintained conversations about the weight and quality of the cocaine. In addition, 25.56 grams of cocaine were found in his home along with 0.9 grams of another substance, as well as a mobile phone.
The Prosecutor's Office accuses the five of a crime against public health in the form of a substance that causes serious damage to health. For Addison de Jesús, Nelson Raúl, Diego Fernando and Jessica Lorena, he requests five years and six months in prison and special disqualification from the right to passive suffrage during the term of the sentence and a fine of 107,707.104 euros. While for Warrinton he requests a sentence of six years in prison and special disqualification from the right to passive suffrage.
