Stuart Paul Margerison, the British citizen who was arrested on Friday afternoon in Playa Honda for assaulting his partner in the street, has been sentenced to six months in prison and disqualification from the right to passive suffrage during the term of the sentence, for a crime of gender violence.

The day after the arrest, a quick trial was held and the presiding judge of the Court of Instruction number 1 of Arrecife has also sentenced him not to approach the victim within 500 meters, as well as not to communicate with her for 20 months. In addition, he is deprived of the right to possess and carry weapons for 20 months.

The events occurred last Friday, when a Civil Guard officer who was off duty heard a person asking for help while walking along the Avenida de las Playas in Playa Honda. When he went to the place where the screams were coming from, the agent observed a man attacking another and next to him was a woman, with a baby in her arms and with "obvious signs of physical aggression on her face".

According to the Local Police, the second man intervened to prevent the aggression against the woman, and was also hit. After separating the two men, the aggressor was arrested, brought to judicial disposition and the quick trial was held the following day.
