The Criminal Court 4 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has sentenced English Philology professor at the University of La Laguna (ULL) Pedro José Domínguez to 21 months and seven days in prison for sexually abusing seven students. This was reported by the digital newspaper Canarias Ahora

The defendant admitted the facts in the oral trial held in mid-January. Among them, he acknowledged that he made "touches" to several of his students without consent and "comments of a sexual nature."

According to the same media, the case was delayed since 2014, the year in which the events began, and the professor continued teaching at the University. It is not the first time that this public institution has been involved in a complaint of sexual harassment against one of its professors, as a case was opened against an Economics professor who was eventually acquitted. In this case, according to the protocol, the institution appeared as a private prosecutor

According to El Día, the sentence also "prohibits the convicted person from practicing the profession for five years, but outside the university environment."
