A man who was arrested at the Lanzarote airport in 2015 with drugs inside his body will be tried by the Sixth Section of the Provincial Court on April 10. The Prosecutor's Office is asking for a sentence of six years and a fine of 3,356 euros for Alejandro Touza Álvarez for a crime against public health.
According to the indictment, the defendant was arrested on April 22, 2015 when he arrived in Lanzarote, around 11:30 p.m., on a Ryanair flight from Santiago de Compostela. Specifically, he was carrying 89.08 grams of hashish inside his body, which would have reached a value of 497.96 euros on the illicit market, and 35.20 grams of cocaine, with an average richness of 16.66%, which would have reached a value of 786.72 euros.
The Prosecutor's Office considers that the facts constitute a crime against public health in its modality of substances that cause serious damage to health and requests six years in prison due to the aggravating circumstance of recidivism, since, according to the qualification document, the accused was already sentenced by the Provincial Court of Vigo in April 2014 to two years in prison for a drug trafficking crime.
