The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will judge on April 10 a man accused of attempted homicide and a minor offense of injury.
According to the prosecution's indictment, the accused, born in the Czech Republic and with no criminal record, on May 11, 2024, for no apparent reason, lunged at a woman who was walking along Eugenio Rijo Rocha street in Arrecife with her minor granddaughter in her arms and, with the intention of ending her life, grabbed the minor's neck tightly, while attempting to snatch her away, initiating a struggle during which the grandmother fell to the ground.
As a consequence of these events, the Public Prosecutor explains, the woman suffered injuries for which she required initial medical assistance, taking 12 days of impediment to recover for the performance of her usual tasks. In addition, the minor also suffered injuries that required medical assistance.
The Prosecutor's Office highlights that the accused at the time of the events suffered psychopathological alterations from a decompensation of a psychotic disorder, which, very significantly, prevented him from understanding the illegality of his actions or acting in accordance with said understanding. Therefore, the Public Prosecutor's Office recognizes the "incomplete exculpatory" due to psychotic disorder.
Therefore, the Prosecutor's Office requests four years of prison and the same amount of psychiatric confinement for the crime of attempted homicide. In addition, it requests a fine of 150 euros and the security measure of supervised release with the obligation to undergo medical treatment for 4 years.
Regarding civil liability, the accused must compensate the grandmother with 1200 euros and the legal representative of the minor with 250 euros for the injuries suffered.
The accused is in provisional prison for these events since May 31, 2024.
