Detained after trying to take a baby in Arrecife

The arrested man, of Czech nationality, was detained by citizens who were in the area until the Local Police arrived.

A man of Czech nationality has been arrested by the Local Police after attempting to take a one-and-a-half-year-old girl in the Titerroy neighborhood of Arrecife, according to La Voz from one of the witnesses. The events took place at 2:00 p.m. this Saturday on Eugenio Rijo Rocha Street.

Apparently, the baby was with her grandmother on the street when the arrested man grabbed her, and immediately the grandmother began to ask for help, and several men who were in a nearby cafeteria ran after the man and detained him until the Local Police officers arrived.

A device of five Local Police officers moved after being alerted from the 112 Emergency center to the Titerroy neighborhood. The grandmother told the acting officers that moments before she was walking along a street adjacent to Los Leones Park. The now detained man approached her and forcefully snatched her granddaughter, who she was carrying in her arms.

The grandmother, who fell to the ground in the incident, was transferred by ambulance to Molina Orosa with a minor blow to the face.

According to witnesses to the event, the detainee is about 40 years old and is usually "seen wandering around Arrecife."

From the Arrecife City Council, they have reported that the perpetrator of the abduction of the minor, with initials T. V (did not carry documentation and indicated to the agents his origin and identity) was transferred by local agents to the Health Center for the assessment of a doctor. According to the detainee's records, he told the officers that he was born in 1983 in the Czech Republic, and may suffer from some mental pathology. The address on the island is unknown.

With the actions of the agents, and the contributions of five witnesses, the local agents of Arrecife read this person his rights, informed him that he was detained, and initiated proceedings and subsequent transfer to the Police Station for his placement at the disposal of the court, in accordance with article 520 of the Criminal Procedure Law and other legal provisions.

The mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, directly responsible for the Local Police, appreciates the "exemplary action of the citizens who helped the grandmother and her granddaughter, which allowed the arrest of the perpetrator." The mayor values the rapid police action that has allowed the detention of this person, and whose outcome has not created more pain for the minor's family.
