Universities subsidizes 85 research contracts in the Canary Islands

The allocation amounts to 8.4 million euros and will finance the contracts for the next four years

 The Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture (CUCIC) of the Government of the Canary Islands published this Tuesday the order of the call for subsidies aimed at the predoctoral hiring of research personnel, with an allocation of 8,463,003 euros.

The head of the Ministry, Migdalia Machín, highlighted in a statement the increase in the financial allocation by 2,597,051 euros, with a total of 8,463,007 euros distributed in four annuities (2024-2027) in order to contribute to the Canary Islands research space, as well as to the consolidation of R&D&I groups.

“With this initiative, 85 researchers can benefit”, said the minister, who specified that, of the 85 contracts awarded, 56% are women. 

The beneficiary entities of the predoctoral contracts are the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (33), the University of La Laguna (47), the Canary Islands Health Research Institute Foundation (1) and the Higher Council for Scientific Research (4).

These subsidies are co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus of the 2021-2027 Operational Program and managed by the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society (ACIISI).
