The fifth edition of the Global South Forum 2024: the challenges of tourism took place in the Castle of San José de Arrecife, with all tickets sold out.

The opening of the event was in the hands of the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo. The president of AC Hoteles by Marriott, Antonio Catalán, spoke together with the director of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the CEOE, Inmaculada Benito; and the economist and economic disseminator, José Carlos Díez.

Participated together with the speakers in the round table on the tourism model of Lanzarote, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the president of the Island Chamber of Commerce, José Valle.

The experts debated on the necessary transformations to maintain the competitiveness of the destination and on the evolution of Lanzarote to a tourism model based on uniqueness and fleeing from massification.

The forum has been sponsored by Turismo Lanzarote, the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote, the Government of the Canary Islands and Cicar, with the collaboration of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, also counting as a main partner with the media group Lanzarote Media.
