SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote presented this Tuesday to the business community, public officials and other agents related to nautical tourism on the island, the Arrecife Bay project, an initiative whose main objective is to boost nautical tourism in the capital.

According to a statement issued by the Island Council, "a contract will be put out to tender to prepare a diagnosis and strategic analysis of Arrecife's capacity to become a benchmark destination and pole of attraction for international nautical tourism and to draw up a strategy and propose a design of the tourist offer to achieve this, defining the scope and planning of the actions to be included in the dynamisation project".

The President of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, during the meeting with all the representatives of the sector in the Islote de Fermina, highlighted the "integrating and transforming purpose of the coastline of the initiative, which will promote Arrecife as the international capital of tourist activities linked to the blue economy".

For his part, the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, stressed that it is an important moment in which the collaboration of the Nautical Board is being fundamental, "which will allow us to establish the future line of work". He also announced the creation of "a committee of experts to advise on the entire development process".

This committee of experts will participate in the design, development and execution of the initiative and will be composed of the island's president, Oswaldo Betancort, the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, together with representatives of Turismo de Lanzarote, specialised technicians from the Cabildo, as well as other organisations such as Calero Marinas, Marina Rubicón, Club Los Marlines, Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and the Sailing Federation, among others.

"The consultancy that was announced this Tuesday, and whose services will be tendered from this presentation onwards, responds to the need to carry out an exhaustive diagnosis of Arrecife's capacity as a nautical capital to launch this dynamisation project", explained Fernández.

"Likewise, the action plan includes preliminary studies, the creation of expert panels, field work, visits to the facilities and the application of strategic analysis techniques, such as SWOT analysis. In this way, the Cabildo de Lanzarote and SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote guarantee effective and results-oriented planning", concluded the CEO.
