The Air Traffic Controllers' Union (USCA) and CCOO have called starting April 17 an indefinite strike at the private air navigation manager Saerco to denounce "the lack of staff, the deterioration of working conditions and their impact on operational safety".
Saerco manages the control towers of the airports of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, Sevilla, Jerez (Cádiz), Cuatro Vientos (Madrid), Vigo and Coruña.
The union organizations, USCA being the majority one in Saerco, denounce that aeronautical safety cannot be sustained on a staff "subjected to fatigue, stress and permanent uncertainty".
The lack of effective breaks and the continuous alteration of work organization compromise the concentration required in an essential service such as air control, the unions add.
Therefore, they demand sufficient staff in all towers, respect for aeronautical breaks, an end to "abusive" availability activations, a guarantee of holidays and working conditions compatible with operational safety and professional dignity.
For USCA and CCOO there is a structural problem derived from "years of staff reduction, workload, organizational improvisation and non-compliance regarding rest, conciliation and service planning".
