The National Federation of Vehicles with and without Driver (Feneval) expects the rent a car sector to begin its definitive recovery from Easter onwards and that this can continue in the summer, according to the Hosteltur tourism portal.
Its president, Juan Luis Barahona, has stated that the sector's forecast is to close 2022 with a turnover of 80% of 2019 levels and recover its pre-pandemic figures in 2023. Even some Spanish destinations “are already close to or exceed the volume of reservations prior to the COVID-19 pandemic,”
Despite this, the problem of vehicle shortages remains very present due to delays in the supply of semiconductors, so the business association recommends that users anticipate and book their car in advance, so that the sector can foresee possible peaks in demand for Easter and the summer season.
Despite the efforts of rent a car entities to ensure the availability of vehicles through various initiatives, difficulties remain in the supply of vehicles by distributors in the automotive sector.
