New record of foreign tourists in the first five months of 2026 in the Canary Islands

Canarias has received until May 6.8 million international tourists, 0.1% more than in the same period of 2025, placing it as the second Spanish region that has attracted the most foreign visitors, and has registered the highest accumulated spending, 10.3 billion euros, 20.5% of the total.

This is according to the provisional data from the Statistics on Tourist Movements at Borders (FRONTUR) and the Tourist Expenditure Survey released this Thursday by the INE.

The former highlights that in the fifth month of the current year, the Canary archipelago received 1,070,492 foreign visitors, 0.5% more than those counted in April.

The latter reflects that tourist spending in Canarias at the end of May represented 1.555 billion euros, 2.4% more year-on-year.

The average spending per tourist stood at 1,453 euros, which is 3% more, and the average daily spending per person was 194 euros, 1% less, although the average stay, of 7.5 days, represented an annual variation of 4%.

In the first five months of 2026, the community with the highest accumulated spending has been Canarias, with 20.5% of the total, accounting for 10.292 trillion euros, representing an annual variation of 0.03%.

In the accumulated total for the same period, the average spending per tourist has been 1,521 euros, -0.03%, while the average daily spending has reached 190 euros, 4.83% more, with an average stay of 8 days representing a decrease of 4.6% year-on-year.
