The Tourism Department of the Consell de Mallorca has carried out in recent weeks a split of the tourist inspection area in order to achieve greater efficiency in compliance with the law and in the operation of the tourist offer of Mallorca.
Thus, the tourist inspection area is divided into two different parts: one that will be dedicated to the control of the legal offer and the other, whose mission will be to detect and sanction the illegal offer that is detected in Mallorca.
Thanks to this split, the department led by the councilor José Marcial Rodríguez Díaz will be fully focused on fighting against any type of irregularity in the tourism sector of Mallorca, both in the regulated offer and in the one that is not.
Specifically, the area focused on the legal offer will remain with 10 inspectors and that of the illegal offer with another 17 officers, although these figures and this proportion will fluctuate throughout the year depending on the season and the needs of the department.
As for the functions, in the department for the legal offer the objective will be to check issues such as compliance with the levels of circularity required of the sector, the use and consumption of local products and the state of modernization of the establishments, among other issues.
In the illegal department, the main objective will be the fight against illegal and unregistered offers in the archives of the Consell de Mallorca.
This split of the Tourist Inspection Service is effective since April and in the words of the councilor Rodríguez, it represents "a further step to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness within the department, which will help us to continue fighting against the illegal offer, which does so much damage to those who do things right in Mallorca"
