Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodations in Spain, which do not include holiday homes, but rather non-hotel tourist apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodations, and hostels, exceeded 14.4 million in September, with an increase of 4.1% compared to the same month last year.
Both overnight stays by residents and non-residents increased by 4.1%. The average stay was 4.1 overnight stays per traveler.
In the specific case of overnight stays in tourist apartments, they increased by 5.8% in September. Those of residents increased by 1.9% and those of non-residents by 7.6%.
Canary Islands was the preferred destination in apartments, with more than 2.2 million overnight stays and an increase of 11.7% compared to September 2024. Illes Balears had the highest occupancy, with 81.3% of the apartments offered.
By tourist areas, Costa Blanca was the preferred destination, with more than 0.9 million overnight stays. Lanzarote presented the highest occupancy rate, at 87.8%. The tourist spots with the highest number of overnight stays were San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Mogán, and Arona.
The average stay decreased by 2.1%, to 4.9 overnight stays per traveler.
In September, 41.4% of the places offered were occupied, 4.7% more than in the same month of 2024. The occupancy rate per place on weekends was 45.7%, 6.9% higher.
68.9% of overnight stays were by non-resident travelers. The United Kingdom was the main source market, with 34.3% of the total.
