Lanzarote has become the undisputed object of desire for Aragonese retirees. According to a study by the tourism monitoring platform HayPlaza—a tool that audits in real-time the vacancies generated by cancellations in the official Tourism Social reservation system—the "conejera" island accounts for 32% of user preferences in Aragon, ahead of Menorca (22%) and Tenerife (19%).

The affair with the archipelago also extends to the Catalan market, where Lanzarote consolidates itself as the second most coveted destination with 26% of searches, only behind Tenerife (29%).

However, finding a spot on the island outside of the official September sales days is an almost impossible mission: the success rate for those looking for free dates in Lanzarote barely reaches 10%-12%. In stark contrast, the peninsular coast offers much higher availability, with percentages reaching 68% in Almería or 79% in Alicante.

Tenerife is the preferred option not only in Catalonia but also in the Valencian Community (38%), Asturias (33%), Andalusia (31%), Catalonia (29%), and Galicia (22%). Meanwhile, Fuerteventura leads the interest of applicants from the Community of Madrid (29%) and the Basque Country (27%).

The hunt for cancellations: less than 30 minutes

For the current 2026-2027 season, Imserso has 879,213 spots distributed among more than 4.6 million accredited individuals nationwide. Once the initial allocations are exhausted, the only way to get a ticket to the islands lies in the spots freed up by last-minute cancellations, annulments, or date modifications.

In Lanzarote, however, the margin for reaction is minimal. While on the Levantine or Andalusian coast a canceled spot can remain active for hours on the official website, in the eastern islands vacancies last an average of 20 to 30 minutes before being captured by automated alert systems.
