The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through Turismo Lanzarote, presented at Fitur 'Cicerone', a pioneering project in Spain that will allow the César Manrique Airport to have the first autonomous office with GPT supported by Microsoft.
According to the Cabildo, through artificial intelligence, the office "will not only be able to create a route and explain the different points of interest in the municipalities of the island, but will also offer information about restaurants by type of food, museums and attractions. A revolutionary immersive experience thanks to the use of Microsoft's Azure GPT, the most cutting-edge and secure technology in this field."
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, stressed that "this pioneering project will radically transform the experience of tourists when demanding information at the airport."
"It is important that the island's tourism strategy influences the increase in tourist spending in the destination and takes a qualitative leap, positioning Lanzarote as an innovative destination; and introducing technology in tourist information means personalizing the information, replacing paper and providing a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week response," added the president and head of the area.
The Cabildo also reported that 'Cicerone' will help tourism technicians to interact with and attract any type of user, even if they do not know their language (95 different languages), without the need to translate the contents, opening their office every day of the year and interacting in the different stages of the traveler.
'Cicerone' won the first prize in the Startups competition of the Tourism Innovation Summit (TIS) in Seville in 2023.
The project includes the installation of a totem and television screen in the airport office, as well as the first tourism chatbot connected to GPT to attract tourists in any language (up to 95 languages); a web module and QR code; tourist information officer; tourist registration; satisfaction survey; personalized signage and grid; automated mailing; segmented campaigns and installation on the SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote website of the route planner with artificial intelligence.
