"The year 2022 has given us that oxygen balloon of stability that we needed, not only the centers, but the island and all its business sectors”, after a “tremendous uncertainty” the two previous years with practically no tourists, the CEO of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers, Benjamín Perdomo, highlighted during an interview with Radio Lanzarote within the framework of FITUR.
"Higher quality tourism, from the premium sector, is increasing, we are growing day by day in that sector and it is being noticed on the island, in restaurants, in hotels, which have been able to raise the price, the average restaurant bill, the price of the room, and that is done in a constant daily work in fairs like Fitur", he explained.
"We are clear about what our horizon is. You don't have to give up anything, but we are clear that our target audience is the highest quality premium sector and with higher spending at the destination", he specified.
"The change in support for culture has been brutal"
In the field of centers, Perdomo highlighted that "2022 has been a very good year” with "aid to the cultural sector of one million euros, with projects and direct sponsorships".
For the coming year, the CEO explained that they once again have a “very busy agenda, with music, literature, art, sculpture"… and he underlined that "the change in support for culture has been brutal".
After the successes of last year, Perdomo wants “a little more” for 2023. “I think it can be done better in the management of tickets, stores and restaurants, being humble and trying to improve all areas of the company so that everything is like clockwork”.
The CEO of the centers also highlighted the work during the pandemic years, when the CACTs were “the first to do things in streaming” and how many artists, such as Ricardo Arjona, bet on the centers.
"I am very proud of the team we have"
Asked about the current labor situation of the Centers' workers with the new management, compared to criticisms in the past, Perdomo explained that he never had the perception that the staff “as they tried to make us believe for many years, was conflictive, that they did not work, but quite the opposite”.
“I am delighted with all the staff, there are always issues for discussion, but the truth is that I am very happy and proud of the team we have, I have no complaints. Furthermore, it shows that we have had four years of tranquility”, he added.
“Without the workers it would have been impossible to get to where we are. In the end it is about respect. I am very demanding, but when you treat with respect and demand, there is no problem. When you are fair, the team responds. There is no secret, it is treating people normally and with respect, there is no magic wand", he summarized.
