The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved this Monday the provisional tourist classification of an emblematic hotel with 10 places in the municipality of Haría, after the analysis and evaluation of the project presented for the rehabilitation and change of use of a single-family home.

The building in question is located at 11 Fajardo Street in the town of Haría. The provisional tourist classification is limited to assessing the planning requirements established in the Regulation of the Tourist Accommodation Activity of the Government of the Canary Islands for emblematic hotels.

This report does not include the evaluation of compliance with other technical building or accessibility requirements, which will be analyzed in later stages of the project, in accordance with safety, health, sustainability and accessibility regulations.

Jesús Machín, Councilor for Territorial Planning and Territorial Policy of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, positively valued the initiative, highlighting that "this type of project contributes to the revitalization of the municipalities, respecting and preserving our architectural heritage."

In addition, Machín stressed that the approval of the provisional tourist classification marks an important step to continue with the development of the island as a sustainable and quality tourist destination. "The rehabilitation of this emblematic building not only preserves a part of our architectural history, but also strengthens the tourist attraction of Haría," said the councilor.

With the approval of this provisional classification, the Cabildo of Lanzarote "takes a further step in the consolidation of the quality tourism model that, through the rehabilitation of traditional buildings, seeks to preserve the cultural and architectural identity of the island, while promoting sustainable economic and tourism development throughout the island's geography," reports the first Institution of the island.

The rehabilitation project is located within a property listed in the Architectural Catalog of the Municipality of Haría (file number HA52, approved in November 2006), which implies that, in addition to the specific requirements for emblematic hotels, the heritage values established in the General Plan of the municipality must be respected.

Among the highlights of the rehabilitation is the adaptation of the house to house five bedrooms, a warehouse, reception area, two patios (one with a pool and solarium), as well as a kitchen and a sauna. The property also has a distribution of spaces that complies with the regulations of the tourist activity regulation in terms of zoning of accommodation, services and maintenance.

Jesús Machín concludes that "projects like this demonstrate how the rehabilitation of our heritage can be a tool for economic development and sustainability, without losing sight of the need to maintain the character and essence of our municipalities."
