A mother with two children, nine and 16 years old, is about to be evicted in Arrecife. The Court of First Instance number 5 of the capital of Lanzarote has ordered the eviction of the property, located in the Altavista neighborhood, on February 21, 2025. However, this family has no other housing alternative due to the high prices of rentals in Lanzarote.

The property requested this citizen, through the Court, to leave the house where she had been living with her two children for more than four years or, otherwise, to face the rent payments that she had not made to date. In total, the debt amounted to 24,750 euros. "Due to economic and personal issues, both mine and with the landlord, I have been unable to pay it for four years," she said in an interview with La Voz.

This family has been living in the same property, located in Altavista, for more than four years and in less than a month they will be on the street, and despite having asked for help "everywhere", they have not found a housing alternative or the support of local institutions, including the Arrecife City Council, which she has turned to. "I earn 900 euros and I have two minors in my charge, how do I pay a rent? Do I stop eating?", she questioned during an interview with this editorial staff.

Currently, she has pointed out that the house in which she still lives with her children "is falling to pieces" and that she "does not reach" the prices and requirements of the rentals to access other properties. "They ask for a month's deposit, a month's real estate agency and the next month, where do I get 3,000 euros from? I don't meet the requirements," she continued. In this sense, she added that she has not been able to apply for rental aid because "they cannot be requested until you have a contract" and that the procedures to access the aid to cover the first month of rent take about a month.

This citizen has even considered the possibility of going to live in a car with her children, but she doesn't even have a vehicle in which to do so. In addition, she fears that the difficulty in accessing a rental house will lead Social Services to take them away.
