The public company Gestión del Medio Rural de Canarias (GMR), attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, is participating in the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) Berlin to show the quality and uniqueness of local products to the more than 90,000 attendees expected in a new edition of this event.

GMR Canarias, in its commitment to publicize the qualities of local productions and the sensory experience they produce in travelers and visitors who want to know the archipelago through gastronomy, will offer between March 5 and 7 a total of fifteen commented tastings for the professional tourism sector that will take place at the Canary Islands stand at this meeting.

The CEO of GMR Canarias, Juan Antonio Alonso, points out that "the wines, cheeses, mojos, gofios, almogrotes and oils, among others, will become the gastronomic ambassadors of the islands as unique products of volcanic origin that are currently the maximum expression of the primary and agri-food sector of the islands."

With this premise and under the umbrella of the brand "Volcanic Xperience", this promotional action is organized with which the public company seeks to value the products and Canarian gastronomy to turn them into a tourist attraction to visit the archipelago.

Two specialists in agri-food products will be in charge of developing these activities with productions awarded in the Official Agrocanarias 2023 Contests, organized by the Canarian Institute of Agri-food Quality (ICCA).

On the one hand, María Antigua Trujillo, an entrepreneur linked to the primary sector of the islands for more than thirty years and a member of tasting committees of different island and regional competitions, and, on the other hand, Erika Sanz Peremarch, the first female sommelier of the Canary Islands who has worked in restaurants of great chefs of international prestige such as El Bulli and Martín Berasategui.

GMR Canarias participates in the ITB Berlin 2024 Fair together with Promotur. This is a joint action within the framework of the "Growing Together" initiative, where the tourism sector and the primary sector work in a coordinated manner to defend the local product as a key element to turn the Canary Islands into a first-class gastronomic destination.
