Yaiza has the lowest unemployment in the Canary Islands and Arrecife the two neighborhoods with the least unemployment

Lanzarote once again leads the Canary Islands labor market. The latest data published this Friday by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (Istac), corresponding to the second quarter of 2026, confirm that the island registers one of the lowest unemployment rates in the Archipelago and concentrates some of the best indicators at both municipal and neighborhood levels.

The report places Yaiza as the municipality with the lowest unemployment rate in the Canary Islands, with 5.8% of the active population unemployed. Added to this figure are three other Lanzarote municipalities among the five with the best figures in the Archipelago: Teguise, with 6.8%; Tías, with 7%; and, on an island-wide basis, Lanzarote maintains an unemployment rate below 9%, sharing regional leadership with Fuerteventura.

Arrecife also stands out in the neighborhood analysis prepared by Istac. The neighborhood of La Concha presents the lowest unemployment rate in the Canary Islands, with only 3.2%, followed by El Cable, with 4.9%. Both lead a list that also includes areas of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arona, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The study, prepared by Istac in collaboration with the Canary Islands Employment Service, highlights the strong contrast between different neighborhoods in the Archipelago. While in some the unemployment rate exceeds 27%, as is the case in Cuesta Piedra, Barrio Nuevo, San Pío X, Jinámar, or El Lasso, in others it barely reaches 5%.

Employment trends also favor Lanzarote. In the last year, the number of registered employed persons increased by 4.2% on the island, only behind Fuerteventura (4.4%), and above the regional average, which stood at 3.6%.

Furthermore, registered unemployment decreased by 6.1% in the Canary Islands as a whole during the last year, with improvements on all islands except El Hierro, where figures remained practically stable.

The data released by Istac corresponds to the Registered Active Population Statistics, which allows for the analysis of the employment situation with sub-municipal detail in Arrecife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Arona.
